Paul Smith an influential british designer, a name that is recognised all over the world for both his Paul Smith fashion brand and also his contribution to fashion over the decades.



Paul Smith originally had the passion for cycling and had every intention of cycling professionally, are we glad that this did not happen. Unfortunately for Paul Smith he was in quite a serious accident that squandered his hopes of becoming a professional cyclist but fortunately for the heritage of british design this then sparked another side to Paul Smith. Once the cycling hopes and and dreams were over and he was recovered from the accident he started to experience the excitement and fresh colours of the art world with meeting new people who had a passion of art and this enticed Paul Smith and inspired the creative side within him. At this point Paul Smith started to work within the fashion world taking classes in tailoring and fashion design and worked in clothes shops in London to see how the fashion process and making occured. Mentioning the first momentious occasion Paul Smith opened his first retail shop in 1970 in Nottingham. This was then the making of the Paul Smith brand as we know it today and it then progressed from strength to strength in the fashion world taking only 6 years to get his brand on show in Paris. I think the extroadinary section of this history so far is that Paul Smith was always going to be a profressional cyclist and the thought of a career in fashion was always non existant. This was until he felt the vibes of the fashion world and got inspired by conversations in a pub about warhol and fashion influences of that time and from then on he wanted to be part of it. Following showing in Paris in 1976 Paul Smith progressed to open another retail outlet and then over the years the Paul Smith clothing brand progressed all over the world and in particular took great success from the Japanese market. The Paul Smith brand and clothing is iconically british and it makes you proud to think it is still an ambassador for british fashion and gives hope and enthusiasm to all the young creatives that are the now and the future offering a declaration that with the right designs and creative inspiration it can be done.

The Paul Smith brand has many iconic logos and a logo of which demonstrates the alternative look of each of the 12 collections within Paul Smith. The extremely recognisable eyecatching logo of Paul Smith is the signature. This is the signature by the innovator himself and is finished in a black scroll signature and this can be found on a large selection of the Paul Smith clothing. A lot of people may recognise the Paul Smith brand by the multi coloured stripe branding, this is heavily iconic to the brand, it is fresh, exuberant and easily recognised. There are many logos that are significant to the Paul Smith brand for example the Paul Smith London range that has the signature logo with London underneath in bold font and the Paul Smith Jeans brand has the signature with Jeans underneath. The logos are important to the Paul Smith brand and allows the consumer to recognise subtly the clothing that they are looking at is in fact designed and manufactured by the Paul Smith brand.

The zebra logo is filled with the contrasting multi stripes and highlights the Paul Smith brand but with a small pack of punch.
